Surgical Site Infections (SSI)

Surgical Site Infections

The prevention of SSI in the outpatient setting is increasingly important as more procedures are performed outside of a hospital setting Public reporting of process, outcome, and other quality improvement measures are mandatory for hospitals. These could become required for outpatient settings as more complex procedures become common in this setting. Reimbursements for treating SSIs are being reduced or denied, it only makes sense regulations will mandate reporting of infections and complications for outpatient providers. SSIs are in large part preventable with well thought out process improvement evidence-based strategies.
